4 tips to look younger without plastic surgery
Plastic surgery horror stories have turned off many men and women from going under the knife to look younger, but there are less evasive procedures designed to return you to your youthful looks.
As seen on the “Extreme Beauty” episode, experts and board certified plastic surgeons offered up alternatives to facelifts, breast implants, and lip injections.
4 Plastic Surgery Alternatives
Corrective Beauty with Make-up vs Injections or Face Lift
Celebrity make-up artist Alexis Vogel believes you can get good results with makeup techniques to transform lips, eyes, and cheek bones without a facelift or injections as she demonstrated on The Ricki Lake Show.
For example, you want the angles of your eyeliner to sweep up, pick a foundation that’s dewy--there are all kinds of tricks, according to Vogel. Check out more tips from Alexis Vogel for a younger-looking face.
Liquid Lift vs Facelift
Cosmetic Injection Expert Rand Rusher, RN, offers liquid lifts for those wanting to avoid facelift surgery. A liquid lift gives volume back to the skin. As we age, we lose bone, fat and muscle. Using Juvaderm and Restalyne, and freezers like Botox and Dysport help plump things up, giving volume back. The body naturally reabsorbs it.
The results last anywhere from six months to a year. The procedure takes a half hour and 45 minutes with minimal bruising.
20-Minute Flash Breast Augmentation vs Breast Surgery
The flash breast augmentation procedure, according to Dr. Askhan Ghavami, has less downtime than the traditional breast surgery. The actual procedure can take 20-minutes, with an additional post-operative recovery of two to three hours. Dr. Ghavami bypasses the rib cage which usually causes the bruising, and makes no incisions which minimizes blood loss.
Dr. Ghavami’s patient Nazanin, 27, told Ricki Lake she was able to raise her arms above her head the same day, and go out to dinner. The pain can be described as sore muscles after a first-time workout unlike the traditional surgery which requires up to two weeks of recovery with heavy bruising.
Dr. Ghavami recommends the Flash Breast Augmentation for women wanting to go up one or two cup sizes up, anything larger requires the more intrusive surgery.
Aesthetic Dentistry vs. Lip Injections
Dentist to the stars Dr. Bill Dorfman, DDS says fixing your teeth can improve your smile and make you look youthful again. When people get older, the skin above the upper lip wrinkles. The dentist told Ricki Lake he can build your teeth up to support the lip better. Dorfman says to think about it like a balloon – when it’s deflated it looks wrinkled. When it’s blown up - it’s full and smooth.
Jennice Hill, 53, Ricki Lake’s guest on “Extreme Beauty” resorted to aesthetic dentistry for her overbite, decaying teeth and lisp which has caused her great shame over the years. She sought out Dr. Dorfman who extracted ten teeth and replaced them with properly positioned teeth. Ms. Hill says she loves her new smile, and is no longer ashamed to take photos.
If none of these work for you and are considering plastic surgery, Dr. Steven Teitelbaum, a board certified surgeon and recent guest on The Ricki Lake Show, recommends researching doctors on www.surgery.org or checking with the American Board of Plastic Surgery for qualified candidates. He warns there are practicing plastic surgeons operating without board certification.
