show guest becomes victim of gun violence
On tomorrow's episode of The Ricki Lake Show, Ronnie “Scooby” Chambers described how the loss of his three siblings to gang violence inspired him to leave the gang life behind and pursue a career as a music manager. Sadly not long after appearing on the show, he was killed January 26 ON the very streets he tried to escape.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, Chambers was shot at 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning of January 26 after he attended a “listening party” for his client YK, an aspiring rapper also featured on the June 5th episode. Chambers was dropping off friends near his mother’s neighborhood when shots took the fourth child and last son of Shirley Chambers.
As a recent guest on The Ricki Lake Show’s “Wake-Up Calls and Ultimatums", “Scooby” told Ricki Lake he reformed himself as a gang member for his mother’s sake after she lost her three other children to gun violence on the streets of Chicago. The only way to leave that life was to leave his neighborhood. “You have to get away from the area. Getting away from the negativity around you. I’m gonna do different,“ said the Chicago native.
Along with Eric Davis, Youth Gang & International Organized Crime Expert and D&J Entertainment executive, Chambers hoped to inspire YK to leave his dangerous street life and follow his dream of becoming a rap artist.
Ronnie “Scooby” Chambers’ mother, Shirley Chambers, told the Chicago Sun Times that Scooby had recently returned to the neighborhood to live with her for awhile. In the article, she pleaded for help in finding her son’s killer and expressed her concern for the gun violence that took her three sons and daughter. “We need tougher gun laws.”
The Ricki Lake Show sends our condolences to Shirley Chambers and her family.
