medical marijuana for your child?
The use of medicinal marijuana is an ongoing hot button issue, but what if cannabis could be used to alleviate children’s pain due to cancer treatment.
For one 7-year-old, the use of cannabis oil pills helped Mykayla Comstock’s cancer go into remission. Her mother, Erin Purchase, told ABCNews.com, the lime-flavored pills helped rid “the cancer from her body.” She doesn’t feel it was merely a coincidence. However, she was met with defensiveness from doctors and criticized for her decision.
The Ricki Lake Show’s Facebook page went into a frenzy when the following question was posed on the social media page regarding this hot debate.
Should a 7-year-old cancer patient be treated with medical marijuana?
A) YES
B) NO
C) It is the parents' choice and not up for debate!
Below are some of the responses from our Facebook friends.
Where do you stand on this issue?
Chris - Its up to the parents.... if kids are allowed to take narcotics for medical purposes then medical marijuana should also be an option
Jackson - That is just teaching the child that using drugs is an okay way to deal with things which its not!
Travis - Of course not! Let's say she survives the cancer, then she will be addicted to marijuana and by the time she is 13 she will be on crack or heroin. Cancer has been around forever and pot has always been illegal but people have got by.
Kelly - I say it is up to the parents and doctors and everyone else should stay out of it. But I say, why not try it. I am all for it.
Paul - Choice of the parents and their doctor.
Rosie - yes & up to the parents!!! chemo is worse & everyone seems to accept that!!! Oh & yes I know what I'm speaking of I had a relative die from cancer & got to witness first hand.
André - yes
Nikki - Heck no.
Samantha - if it helps then im all for it
Heather - I choose A, if it helps why not.
Danielle - For my babies, I'll try any thing to ease their pain. Who are we to judge if you have not been in a similar situation ....these parents are in enough pain.
