dogs for adoption: could one of these cuties be your next furry family member?

The response The Story of Black Dog Rescue, first published in Ricki Magazine*, has been so overwhelming, readers have been contacting us, asking how they can help. We turned to our friends at Shelter Hope Pet Shop in Thousand Oaks, CA, who have lovingly shared more information on dogs that desperately need to be adopted. Look below to see photos and profiles of those available — your future four-legged family member could be just a click away. *To get the latest issue of Ricki Magazine, click here.

ROSIE

Rosie

Rosie (5 year old female) was rescued from an alley by Shorty Rossi aka the "Pit Boss."  Shorty and his crew brought her to the shelter.  Rosie has been at the shelter for a little over 10 months.

Note from Shelter Hope: Rosie definitely had a tough life on the streets before she came to us judging by her appearance.  Her eyes are red, and her foot pads are a bit worn, but she's healthy and has the kind of resilience and determination that most humans only dream of.  When Rosie sets her mind to something, there's no stopping her. Rosie is the kind of dog that we've all come to admire, love to spoil, and even dress up as you can see from her photos!

FRECKLES

Freckles

Freckles (4/5 year old male) was relinquished by his owner with another dog.  The owner could no longer care for the dogs, but I'm not sure exactly why. That said, we don't think it was ever a good home given how nervous Freckles was when he first came in, and the fact that he'll flinch when you raise your hand to pet him.  Freckles has been with us for 6 months.

Note from Shelter Hope: Freckles falls into the category of the “middle”. The category of dogs that fall in the middle means that their temperment is mellow, and their looks are considered average so they get over looked at the shelter.

Peaches

Peaches

Peaches (6/7 year old female) was found a few blocks from the shelter near a middle school by the students.  Their teacher brought her to the shelter about 2 months ago.

Note From Shelter Hope: Peaches loves to go for long walks, but doesn't need intense exercise, and has a fairly mellow personality.

ZELDA

Zelda

Zelda (2/3 year old female)was rescued from a high kill shelter in Bakersfield.  She has been with us for 8 months.

Note from Shelter Hope: Zelda could use to lose a few pounds, but we love her just the way she is, and so will you!

RUDY

TUDY

Tudy

Rudy (5 year old male) is 100% blind and lived with his best friend Tudy (8/9 year old male), before they were both relinquished two years ago.  I guess you can think of Tudy as Rudy's seeing-eye dog.

Note from Shelter Hope: It's mandatory for them to stay together.
