valentines day: out of the mouths of babes
Valentine's Day is so powerful, it has inspired the annual exchange of 180 Million cards, 196 million roses and 13.19 billion dollars spent on gifts, dinners and dressing up. But even after all that, sometimes the day just doesn't seem to hold up to the fantasy that the romance industry tries to portray. Thankfully, when our significant others fall flat in the passion department, our little ones make up for it with their heart warming, adorable affection and hilarious take on love.
Michele "I love you more than lollipops and lemonade." Melts my heart.
MaryAnn "Grandma you're not fat, you're just fluffy."
Stacie My nephew said "You have a cute butt." I believed him.
Kelly When my kids are being sweet (or sucking up) they tell me I'm the best mom they've ever had.
Robin My 3-yr-old said, "Mom you are so cute. But I'm the so cutest."
Kristine My best friends son is in love with me. When he was 6, he held my face and said "you're so beautiful. Those eyes, those lips, those big... Beautiful... Beaver teeth"
Analiza My 5 year old asked me to marry him yesterday and confessed his undying love, loyalty, and devotion with "I'll always love you Mommy, you're the one."
Colleen [My son] Jake to [my husband] Al about [The Big Bang Theory actress] Kaley Cuoco: "Mama is prettier than her, just a little rounder."
Charlie (AKA @HowtoBeaDad) After a day of the zoo and playground, my son, Finn said "You're the best mama ever."
Lissa "Mommy, I love you. (pause) You make me laugh. (pause) You make me poop on me." (Fortunately at three years old he doesn't really poop on himself, he just thinks any sentence with poop in it is automatically hilarious.)
Heather While rubbing my face so gently my son sweetly says "mommy, your forehead looks like the ocean". Sadly, I know son, I know.
Sara "Did you remember to put your boobies on today mommy? I don't want you to forget." Care-taking at it's finest; I'm all set for retirement.
Maggie "Mommy I love you so many much more" makes me smile every time I think about her saying those words to me.
Scott My littlest guy insists that he loved us first.
Matthew "Dad, did you cry happy tears when you found out I was going to stay at your apartment for the first time?" -- my 9 year-old, Jacob. The answer? YES.
Jill [My son] said, "Mommy, why are you drawing on your face?" Me: "Well, it's something girls do sometimes to try to look pretty." Him: "Just my opinion but -- I don't think you need it."
Kimmy Just had a discussion about love and 'ooh la LA' with my 4 and 6 year old while making valentines last weekend. "Ooh la LA' is romantic love according to the six year old. He loves his family, friends and dog, but he has 'Ooh la LA' for his future wife (little girl that moved away over a YEAR ago).
Talitha "You're my bestest best friend and I love you."
Brandy Mine says " I love you and I like you" which actually is totally different. LOL—she's 4.
What's the cutest or funniest thing a child has said to you?
